Huge plume of smoke as firefighters tackle industrial site blaze

Firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at an industrial site in the Leicestershire town of Coalville. The fire broke out at a recycling plant on the site, sending a huge plume of smoke into the sky. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) was called to the scene at about 11:40 BST on Wednesday. At its height, eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were tackling the blaze. The LFRS said the fire was spreading rapidly and warned residents to keep their windows and doors closed. The fire service later reported that crews were making good progress in bringing the fire under control, but it said they would remain at the scene for some time. A spokesperson for the LFRS said: "We have eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform in attendance. "The fire is spreading rapidly and we are asking residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution." Leicestershire Police said officers were also at the scene to assist the fire service. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Summary

"Firefighters are continuing to work to bring the blaze at the recycling plant under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
